Review of F.F. McCulligan's "Cost of Haven"

"The Cost of Haven" by F.F McCulligan is a good read, but with the added bonus of being one of those stories that reveals all the pertinent information as the plot unfolds and at a quick pace. A medieval fantasy world where only three cites remain. The book revolves mostly around Deagan Wingrat who must become our hero! The characters are overall interesting, the dialogue is entertaining and fun - their is good humour between Deagan and his friend Kellen.. The characters tend to be fairly three-dimensional, and struggle with the consequences of their actions and decisions. The world is well defined and was unique and dramatic. The history of the world was done enough to give a feeling of reality. The plot was wrapped up in a rather cliché manner, but it worked well and I don't think any other way would have worked quite as well as it is the first volume of a planned trilogy. I love a good series and "The Cost of Haven" is off to a great start. I am looking forward to the follow-up.
