Author Tim Vander Meulen weaves an entertaining and thought provoking tale in just over 300 pages. I found the first section a little hard going (getting familiar with names, places etc) but once the dialogue kicks in, the story becomes fluid and easy to love. It's said that any journey is at least as important as the destination, and this story illustrates that well. The characters are well drawn, the scenery is vivid, and adventures unfold throughout. Part of the reason why I like the author's work is because when he crafted this fantasy story, he did it in a plausible way. When you read this, be prepared to examine the book and all its symbolism and insight into human nature and the challenges of any society. A great read for teens through adult.
