Disguised as a man, Emma Cartwright goes to Washington to join the Union Army to fight against slavery. Emma get much more than she bargained for in Mercedes King's novel "Plantation Nation" I really enjoyed reading this book poignant love story. This book tested my emotions, like very few books do for me. The book really showed the complexities of the time. Instead of portraying everything in a polarized way, the author seemed to really grasp and convey how people viewed the war and the country. I am already looking forward to her next book.
