America’s Kingdom #1

Writer & Creator Brian Hawkins delivers an incredibly strong first issue of a series that new readers will find themselves wanting to stick around. In 1776 George Washington decided that he would become king and ruler of America. As a history buff I always find it  fascinating to read of "alternate history". Hawkins smartly teases us with little glimpses at how America could have become a Monarchy while losing its collective soul. A country where guns are outlawed and rebels are trying to turn America into the democracy. When reinventing history there are always a lot of threads and ideas  that could be explored e.g intellectual, scientific, technological. With arts from Aris Gonzales and inks from Charlie Alway, this is a series that feels like it's moving in the right direction and with just the right pacing. Hawkins provides enough strong storytelling clues in every panel that he empowers his readers to read on! If you like dystopian misadventures topped with a bit of George Orwell, check this series out!
