'Nemesis'

Roger A. Price manged to keep me reading from beginning to end without taking much of a break! I read this book in two sittings, even staying up most of last night to finish it! Detective Vinnie Palmer and TV reporter Christine Jones are on the trail of an escaped psychopath as he has leads them from one murder scene to another. As the pieces fit together and the frustrating chase to uncover the killer makes the conclusion very dramatic. The story line is incredibly believable, well developed, and riveting. One of the few in recent years where I could see the story developing around me like I was watching a movie.

'The Path to Psychosis'

When it comes to short story collections, this is not a good collection - it's a great collection. The imagination factor is high, as author Charles Riffle leads us down 'The Path to Psychosis'. Eleven stories that are packed with creativity and take you straight to the point. To be honest, I prefer novels, but this is one of those collections that I really did enjoy. It has "makes-you-look-over-your-shoulder" frights :D It's hard to pick the best story in this book, but 'USA Husbands' and 'Pain Redefined' are definite must-reads.

'Lamentation'

'Lamentation' is the perfect title for this book i.e the passionate expression of grief or sorrow. Author Mitch Sebourn presents us with all the elements for a great ghost yarn. This is the story of Jake Boyd who, after an accident, returns home to Kansas to start a teaching job. But there is more to his school than grumpy teenagers! I sometimes get bored with horror stories but this one held my attention. Aside from a few minor issues with changes in tense, there is great potential here. The writer clearly has skill, but I would just haved liked a bit more showing, rather than telling, particularly in regards to building character. That been said, I will definitely look for more of this author's work.

'The Dolocher'

Someone is killing. Or something!! 'The Dolocher' by European P. Douglas draws the reader in and keeps the pages turning effortlessly. The author excellently portrays the atmosphere which makes horror-history work so well. Dublin is the perfect setting, and as the story moves forward, we become aware of some dark history. A perfect balance is struck between the 18th century Dublin as we know it and the supernatural aspects of this story. The words here are so descriptive but without being too wordy or long winded. It puts you in the centre of it all, in the forefront of everything that is going on around these characters. I look forward to more of the same from the author.

'All Because of the Cat'

'All Because of the Cat & Other Tales' is a fantastic collection of short stories from author Jennifer Word. The collection comprises of fast paced bursts of mystery, horror, and si-fi. The writing was clear but descriptive when needed. Each short story is a blend of unique characters and gripping situations that transport you into that world. You can't help but be drawn into each different story and question what you yourself would do faced in the same circumstances. I was so involved I had to make myself stop and do other things - like eating & sleeping! :D
