"The Worst Journey In The World"

Set during World War 2, this story is narrated by George, who is on a mission to protect supply boats during the height of the war. There is so much here; suspense, mystery, love, heroism and most of all a historical insight to a very dark time in our history! We get to see the day-to-day living in a terrible place during the war at that time. The author who did an excellent job with this read. It made me want to explore history more and gave me a new perspective on WW2. Excellent and well written. 

'Emerald's Ring'

As someone who has read a lot of fantasy novels, this story kept me guessing and hoping that things would work out in the end. After finishing this book, I immediately went to find the first book in the series. My only complaint is that is was too short but it had everything a person reading this can ask. It has tense parts, moving parts, and hard to put down. Congratulations Jaylee Austin! You told a wonderful story!

'Hidden in the Dark'

An intense and suspenseful story about family secrets, "Hidden in the Dark" by Rashell Lashbrook had me hooked from the first chapter. I couldn't put it down if I tried! The book was well written, full of excitement, suspense, hatred and love. She captures every feeling imaginable in this book. One of the standouts for me is the detail the Rashell has put into the characters. She is on her way to becoming a notable author. Looking forward to reading her upcoming publications.

'Thieves of Islar'

James Shade writes in a smooth, easy to read style that snares you in, and carries you along to the very end. I have to say that this book was a pleasant surprise! Set in the fantasy city of Islar is a fresh story-line, believable characters, and a couple of nice twists in the mix. One thing that impressed me was the higher level of language that was used in this book. The authors characters are compelling, the settings have both brutality and honesty and the plot has unexpected turns. This promises to be an interesting series - and I need answers, but I'll have to wait for the release of book two to get them. I can't wait!

'6.4 Squared'

There are only a handful of authors in the world who I would read every word they’ve ever written. John Walsh is one of those. With Irish wit and worldly knowledge, John has put together a wonderfully warm and humourous collection of reflective poems. Several of the poems from John's rich understanding and wisdom about life made me stop, think, reread and really absorb what he said. With a masterful command of verse and a bullish view of life, this book is both special and thought provoking. A true treasure to read and a book that you will pick up again and again and again and.....

'Ghost Sickness'

Amber Foxx continues to delight with her no murder, just mystery novels. Ghost Sickness is the fifth novel in the Mae Martin mystery series. Mae and Jamie are wonderful characters. I like how the author can connect characters to each other, and ropes you in as if you are part of the story. The author did her research on Indian reservations and was very accurate in her descriptions. This book was suspenseful, humorous, and steady reading. I have also read and enjoyed the other books in the series as the author can offer readers a form of escapism that typical detective stories can't.

'Borrowed Wings'

The sequel to the award winning 'Skylark', Borrowed Wings continues where Skylark left off. Billie must find her way forward and Jack must find his way back. But this time the secondary characters from the first book get into the spotlight much more, and that is a good thing. The great thing is this is a book that pretty much everyone can (and will) enjoy. It is funny, tender, thoughtful and thought-provoking - as the layered meanings run deep in this book. This isn't Fargo. It is something more tender and beautiful. It is a book you will think about long after you close the cover. 

'LandQuaker'

Author Dean Wilson is writing books I’ve always wanted to read - steampunk with actual emotions and true character development. The forth book in the Great Iron War series, Landquaker is by far the best. I've been following this whole series with great enjoyment as they're filled with the perfect mix of adventure, mystery & war! Once again the characters in this book are great. For example, a wonderful new addition to the cast of is Nox - a conjuring cowboy full of surprises. With prose that is silver smooth this story is truly full of "Hope" ;)

'Mosquitoes'

A short and believable fictional novel, Mosquitoes by John R. McKay is told so well you have no idea how it's going to turn out. As a person who has done therapy myself I really related to the experiences verging on a nervous breakdown. But this is a story that is also funny, funny in a great way that refuses to take itself seriously and just entertains you. I couldn't put it down and was torn between being desperate to find out what happened next and not wanting the intriguing plot to end. Highly recommend.

'Underwater'

I have to say I've never read anything quite like Underwater by Marisa Reichardt. There’s something so undeniably perfect about this book that I found myself reading it into the early hours of the morning. When I finally finished this book, I wanted to hug Marisa and thank her for writing this book. By reading this, the author allows us to better understand what is the real life experience for so many who feel trapped and have suffered in silence, not allowing themselves to be free of a certain burden. This is a powerful book that I believe will serve as a great conversation piece. Thanks to Macmillan Books for sending me a copy of this book! loved it.

Lovers' Tide

I was under the weather for a few days and these were perfect short stories to read as I rested. All the stories are well written. I would recommend reading the stories in order as they play off each other very well. I read the first story and thought 'that's my favourite' - but then the 2nd one became my favourite - and so on. This is a wonderful book for you to enjoy and it would also make a beautiful gift someone who enjoys reading. Highly recommend.
